With ample parking available in several car
parks situated on the main Tavistock to Princetown road, Pew Tor is easily
accessible whilst being an imposing Tor visible from many parts on this
part of the moor. It sits high on Whitchurch Common overlooking the Walkham
Valley with impressive views all around. Nearby is the Grimstone and Sortridge
Leat which is one of the oldest leats on Dartmoor, its original purpose
being to supply the medieval Manors of Sortridge and Grimstone near Horrabridge.
The leat is still part of the water supply network today. Situated beside
the leat, is Windy Post or Beckamoor Cross, one of the medieval crosses
marking the route of the Abbots’ Way. |
