Fernworthy Reservoir is situated near the
small town of Chagford on the north eastern edge of Dartmoor. It is home
to a wide variety of birds and wildlife with a circular waterside walk
of about three miles plus many other marked trails through the surrounding
forest. There is a Special Protection Zone on the south western arm of
the lake which has two bird hides which visitors can use. Amongst the
trees there are many standing stones and circles including a fine Bronze
Age circle of 27 granite slabs and blocks standing in a clearing about
half a mile west of Fernworthy reservoir. If you walk a little further
through the forest onto the open moor you can visit the famous Grey Wethers
Stone Circles. |
