South Milton Sands on Bigbury Bay, South Devon, is a 
          designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It has a fine beach of 
          coarse sand and an extensive wetland behind the beach which is designated 
          as an SSI. Prominent offshore is the famous Thurlestone Rock which gives 
          the nearby village of Thurlestone its name, the name Thurlestone comes 
          from the Saxon name for pierced rock - Torlestone. owned by the National 
          Trust, the wooden sea defences protecting the National Trust car park 
          at South Milton Sands are reaching the end of their life. An explanation
