Beautiful Demoiselle

A large damselfly, the Beautiful Demoiselle is found on moderate to fast-running water with stony, sandy or gravelly beds. Males have metallic bluish green bodies with broad dark blue wings; females have metallic green bodies with golden brown wings. Males can often been seen displaying on prominent perches through their territory ready to chase off intruders or court females. These photographs were taken along Devonport Leat on Dartmoor.
