Small Heaths |
Latin name - Coenonympha pamphilus Flight period - March to September Wingspan 3.4 to 3.8 cm, 1.34 to 1.5 inch. The Small Heath is a small, inconspicuous butterfly of heathland, moorland,
grassland and coastal habitats, rarely settling more than a yard above
the ground. It is fairly shy and always perches with its wings closed.
It is an inconspicuous yellow-orange and has one eyespot on the forewings.
