Latin name - Anthocharis cardamines
Flight period - April to July
Wingspan 4 to 5.2 cm, 1.6 to 2.1 inch.
The Orange-tip is one of the first species to emerge in spring that has
not overwintered as an adult. The males are unmistakeable; white butterflies
with half of the forewing bright orange and light grey wingtips. Females
are white with black wing tips and can easily be confused with the Small
White. However both male and female Orange-tips have mottled green underwings
whilst Small Whites do not have underwing markings. |
