Latin name - Tyria jacobaeae

Flight period – May to August

Wingspan – 3.2 to 4.2 cm, 1.25 to 1.65 inch.

Description - Medium-sized black moth, red markings on the forewing, hindwings mostly red. Its caterpillar is also brightly coloured, with black and gold stripes. Often found near common ragwort, although sometimes on other ragworts and groundsels.
