Cormorants |
Latin name - Phalacrocorax carbo Cormorants are often seen standing on a rock or post with their wings outstretched to dry. Both sexes are black with white patches on their throats and thighs in summer. Juveniles are browner with a variable amount of white on their under-parts. They are larger than the Shag, which they are often mistaken for, with a bigger, flatter head, and more massive bill. They also tend to fly higher over the water than Shags. Expert fisherman, they often come into conflict with anglers and fisherman. |
