Latin name - Cygnus atratus The famous black swans of Dawlish stray sometimes as this photograph taken at Slapton Ley shows. They were introduced to Dawlish in 1906 by John Nash, a Dawlish man who had emigrated to New Zealand. However the Black swan did not originate in New Zealand, they were introduced there from Australia. |
